Every month, cellphone users receive their bills which shakes their budget due to skyrocketing prices. People can spend thousands of dollars per year on their phone bill, and for families having more than two or three connections, these prices can quickly get out of the hand.
Phone bills are something which we can’t skip because of the cellphone’s compelling nature. However, the unnecessary extra costs you incur on those bills can be minimized adopting certain measures. There are plenty of ways that you can own phone and keep your monthly bills low, thus keeping your budget intact.
Here are some hacks which you can implement to reduce your monthly outgo on phone bills:
#1. Switch to a Custom Plan
Analyzing monthly usage of your phone for making calls, sending messages, internet, and other services and then choosing a monthly plan wisely as per your requirement is a great way to cut costs. Not analyzing your monthly usage and just selecting any plan will just drain your money. Switching to an efficient plan is a good way to save on the phone bill.
#2. Switch Mobile Operator/Service Provider
Different mobile operators/service providers have different rates for the same or almost similar plan. So make a choice for a cheap, better and efficient service provider with a good plan. You should also consider other factors while choosing a service provider such as other services provided, quality of the network, etc. If you live in a metropolis then we have an ample number of choice with good service.
#3: Switch to Prepaid
Many prepaid plans are cheaper than contract plans of the same type. If you are an average user or you use your cell phone for occasional calls, a prepaid plan will be a better option as contrary to contract plan where you have to pay a minimum fixed sum, the provider charges you only for your usage in prepaid plans.
So if there is no internet usage, you won’t be charged anything for the internet. The only additional charge you’ll pay is some minimum charge to keep your phone number active. Charges keep on adding as the service usage is increased. This is a great way to save money on the phone bill as you will only receive pay for what you use.
#4. Get rid of other Charges
Recurring charges are added to your monthly phone bill for additional services like caller tunes, horoscope texts, roadside assistance. Look out for such unnecessary charges, If you don’t require such services, you should get them deactivated and save money.
#5. Look for Offers
There are websites which offer cashback, rewards on recharge. This will add up to your savings. So instead of getting a recharge done by the retailer, search for some website which offers discounts and cashback on recharge.
#6. Use Free networking apps
These days everyone has an active internet connection at any point of time and Who does not use Whatsapp or other Networking apps such as Whatsapp, Skype, etc. offer free calls over the internet between their users, so instead of using regular call service of your carrier for calling people active on such apps, you can use these apps for calling. These will shave off quite a few bucks from your monthly phone bill.
Personally, I prefer Skype due to the clarity of calls and additional paid plans to call a number which does not have Skype. You can even save a hefty amount charged by carriers for international calls by using Skype or WhatsApp.
#7. Use Wi-Fi To Call
This point is just a mere extension of above point for those without an active mobile data connection, they can use wi-fi for calling through these apps.
#8. Switch to a Family Plan
There was a time when single line plans were the only thing out there, as the cellphone was not so common and most families had only one cellphone. But things have certainly changed now, with even the youngest members of the family having a smartphone these days leading to the exorbitant amount of money to be paid in cellphone bills.
Luckily, many operators offer family plans which give the same benefits as that of individual plans at a lower price. So, it’s the best option to choose a family plan if you own more than 2-3 lines to save money.
